Games of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2: Recap
Bran Stark revealed to the others the Night King’s desire for an endless night and an eternal winter.
Bran explained that the Night King would be looking for The Three-Eyed Raven so that he could begin his erasure of the human world with him because of his powers to see the past, present, and future.
The Three-Eyed Raven represent the living memory of the world of the men and the Night King wanted to get rid of him first for this purpose.
Bran agreed to wait in the Gods wood for the Night King as a form a bait in the hopes the others could kill him.
Jaime knights Brienne
Jaime Lannister had some exciting moments this week as he and Bran finally had the conversation about the Broken Tower way back in season one, episode one. They both made peace, and there were hints Jaime had a greater purpose.
Sansa Stark also pardoned Jaime following his return to Winterfell in a trial mirroring his brother Tyrion Lannister’s court reckoning previously.
But the big scene came when Jaime knighted Brienne of Tarth in a heartwarming and emotional moment as he became the honorable man he’s wanted to be.
Sansa and Daenerys continue their rivalry
Sansa and Daenerys Targaryen were still at odds with each other as Lady Stark sought to make her cause for the North.
There was also a moment of shade between the two of them when Sansa forgave Jaime before Daenerys could have the final say.
Theon Greyjoy’s return also seemed to show Sansa had a love of the people as she warmly embraced him as Daenerys watched on awkwardly.
The Mother of Dragons desperately tried to build bridges, but it was all to no avail with Sansa demanding the North be free after the war.
Arya and Gendry
In one of the most surprising moments of the episode, Arya Stark slept with Gendry.
The pair have had a simmering flirtation, but Arya decided she wanted to take things further on the night before the battle.
Speaking about the scene, Williams told Entertainment Weekly: “It was exciting because it’s a very human relationship for Arya.”
“[Game of Thrones showrunners] David and Dan were like, ‘It’s the end of the world, what else would you have her do?’”
Williams added: “So it was that moment where she says, ‘We’re probably going to die tomorrow, I want to know what this feels like before that happens.’
“It is exciting to see Arya be a bit more human, speak more normally about things people are scared of.”
Jon tells Dany the truth
Jon Snow dropped a bombshell when he told Daenerys the truth about his parentage.
Dany was not happy at having this threat to her throne and doubted both Bran and Samwell Tarly’s claims.
However, before she had too much time to get angry the episode came to an end and the Night King was on Winterfell’s doorstep.
The Night King arrives at Winterfell
Things came to a close with the Night King and the White Walkers with Winterfell in their view.
Next week will see the Battle of Winterfell commence as we see the first loss of life and some of our favorite characters get killed off.
