Formula 1 Season 2019 Review
Abu Dhabi’s race brought Formula 1’s most competitive and captivating Hybrid campaign to an end with Lewis Hamilton claiming his sixth championship title. From fierce rivalry between Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull to the death of Formula 1’s greatest legend, Nicki Lauda, this has been a fascinating season. It all started with Mercedes dominating the Formula’s new season and it was Lewis Hamilton and his teammate Bottas sharing the first and second podium finishes between them in the first eight races of the season and they well looked to win the whole tourney with a bang.
There is something about them that makes you believe that they will again be looking to win 2020 championship with both drivers making full use of the fastest cars designed by the Mercedes. Together both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have won 15 races out of possible 21 races with 11 and 4 wins respectively. It was only in Brazil, Singapore and Germany GP where either of them featured on the podium. Such is the dominance of Mercedes and collectively they scored 739 points which is 235 points more than their closest rivals Ferrari.
Ferrari’s Inconsistency and ray of hope
It was expected before the season started that Ferrari will cause Mercedes problems and will definitely reduce the gap between them and other their rivals but this was not the case and Mercedes the fastest of the bunch proved too much for Vettel and CO to handle. It was midway through the season where Ferrari won two back to back races courtesy of Charles Leclerc but Ferrari’s inconsistency was apparent through the course of the season.
Mark Verstappen and Charles Leclerc the future of Formula 1
This was Charles Leclerc in his first year with Ferrari and one has to admit he has done a remarkable Job winning 2 back to back races in Belgium and Italy respectively along with sharing podium in multiple occasions and except for few Ferrari mishaps and few personal errors, Leclerc looks a genuine title contender for years to come. He also finished above his more experienced teammate Vettel, who was only able to win just one race in Singapore GP and like Charles Leclerc did share podium on couple of times.
Meanwhile, Verstappen who is just 22 years old already had racked up 5 victories before the new campaign and also managed to win three times this year further proving his credentials and German GP her he should real maturity to win under wet conditions. It was his most complete season under much improved Red Bull cars. He was also as consistent as Lewis Hamilton throughout the year. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc both seems like a real deal and sure to entertain fans with great duals between them in years to come.
DRIVER OF THE YEAR: LEWIS HAMILTON
Even at the age of34, Lewis Hamilton shows the hunger to win more titles and keep other rivals at bay and despite starting not starting from first position for most races he still managed to win 11 of them and won the championship with two races to spare. This campaign further proved that he is a driver for all seasons hybrid no hybrid, he is the best of the best and the legend in the making. He shows great experience across every side of his driving and was exceptional in keeping his teammate Valtteri Bottas along with Max Verstappen and Leclerc at bay.
RACE OF THE YEAR: GERMAN GRAND PRIX
German GP proved to be the most entertaining with full of drama and comedy spurred by the wet conditions of the track. During the race Hamilton spun twice and eventually had to retire while Valtteri Bottas crashed out of the race. While Charles Leclerc was also crashed out during the 29th lap of the game. It was a race where safety cars were deployed in more than four occasions. Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg suffered the similar fate crashing into a corner that ended his race. Max Verstappen the eventual winner of German GP also spun during the race on a crazy day but showed patience and mental strength to win the race.
MOST IMPROVED TEAM: McLaren
This was a season where McLaren really showed improvements and they ranked fourth on team standings their highest since 2012. Over last decade they lost their engine partners, headline sponsors and their star driver in Lewis Hamilton but after years of rebuilding process this campaign showed that they are on the right track and the podium finish for Carlos Sainz in Brazil further proves that they have worked hard and deserve to the tittle of most improved team.
The new season will be more competitive and should not be missed!
